2020 Tumbleweeds Campout calendar

Happy Holidays to all of you!

I'm a bit behind in getting information out but here we go. It's almost 2020, Spring is only 89 days away, and yes, I'm already thinking of the upcoming camping season! What can I say -- I like spring and summer better than winter!

Here is the upcoming campout information as I know it. If you have a TO BE DETERMINED campout, please send the information to me as soon as you can. Also, about 2-3 weeks before your campout, send out reminder and food information about your upcoming event.

Let me know if you have any questions. Remember -- nothing is set in stone on these campout dates so I'll keep you updated as best I can.

In the meantime, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the Tumbleweeds. Looking forward to Camping Season 2020!

Take care,
Rita 😁

READ!!!! New location for July 24-26 Campout!!!!

Hello Tumbleweeds:

Okay, after giving it much thought and checking reservations for days at the other campgrounds in the area for the weekend of July 24-26, I have a suggestion.

Since Poison Creek is a "no-go" for camping, turns out the campground with the most trees DOES have sites available. HUCKLEBERRY CAMPGROUND, just north of Poison Creek. They are primitive sites (no water, electric or sewer), but they are $19 per night. There are water outlets around the campground and there is a dump station on West Mountain Road you can visit on your way out, if you like. Also, the showers at Poison Creek campground are available to those who are at the other campgrounds.

And yes, you can bring your ATV/UTV so we can still have a ride with the Cascade club! (Rosemary, you're in charge of that event, please. Thanks.)

There are currently 10 sites available for that weekend -- but they won't last long. (see map below).

So in the interest of not losing out on some fun for that weekend, Jim and I have booked site #93. I hope any of you interested in joining us that weekend will make your reservations SOONEST!

https://idahostateparks.reserveamerica.com/
Remember to search for LAKE CASCADE STATE PARK; the loop is HUCKLEBERRY.

More information:

Huckleberry Campground is a "loop" in Lake Cascade State Park and is situated on the western shore of Cascade Lake. It is a park like setting with mowed lawns and open spaces. I like things a little more natural however this is a very busy place during July and August. Make sure you reserve your campsite well in advance. The campground has the lake on the east and West Mountain on the west. It is not isolated but you have good access to recreational opportunities all around it.

Campsites: There are 27 RV / tent camping sites in Huckleberry Campground. The roads and driveways are paved and each site includes a picnic table, fire ring with attached grill and most have a barbecue stand.

Host on Site: Yes.

Water: Huckleberry Campground has a pressurized water system with good water. You will find outlets scattered about the campground.

Garbage Services: Garbage service is available throughout Huckleberry Campground. The likelihood of a nighttime visit from a hungry black bear is not as great here as in some other campgrounds on the west side of the lake. However, I strongly recommend using the garbage service regularly to be safe.

Electricity Available: No.

Restroom: The restrooms are vault style outhouses and were clean and well supplied at the time of our visit. (You can visit the showers at Poison Creek if you like.)

Handicap Accessible: The restrooms and campground as a whole are handicap friendly. Campsites 75 and 80 are handicap equipped.

Firewood: Firewood can be purchased from a stand next to the camp host for $6.00 per bundle.

Pets: Pets are allowed but must kept on a leash or caged.

Picnic Area: No.

Recreation: Recreation from Huckleberry Campground includes; camping, fishing, biking, hiking, skiing, jet skiing and photography as well as many other activities.

Fishing: Fishing is available by boat or from the bank for trout, large and small mouth bass, perch and northern pikeminnow.

Boating: Boating is the most popular recreation here whether it is for water skiing or fishing. There are boat ramps at Rainbow Point Campground to the north or to the south at Buttercup Campground.

Swimming: There is no designated swimming area but there are always people enjoying the lake during those hot summer days.

Wildlife: Deer are common as are small woodland animals and birds.

RV Dumping Site: There is an RV dumping station in Donnelly and another on the north end of West Mountain Campground a short drive to the south. (There is also a dump station on Mountain Road, between Huckleberry and Poison Creek.)

Elevation: 4842 Feet

Fwd: Tumbleweeds: Come One, Come All!!!!

Saturday, November 9th @ 12 noon
KOA Meridian Meeting Room
184 W Pennwood Street, Meridian

It's time for the Annual Election & Planning meeting for the Tumbleweeds 2020 Camping Season.

Lunch will be catered from a new company I discovered with two locations -- one in Eagle, one in Meridian. It's Great Harvest Bread Company. Check them out.

We'll be ordering from their catering menu which I have included in the attached PDF. Lunch will be about $12 per person which includes sandwich, chips, desserts, and drinks OR salad, desserts, and drinks. You choose what sounds good to you. I will need your choices by Tuesday, November 5th so I can place the order on Wednesday. They will deliver just before noon on Saturday so come and enjoy.

The fun will begin after lunch. We'll have the yearly elections proctored by our Director at Large Mark Bennett. If you are interested in being President, Vice President, or Secretary/Treasurer, please contact Mark at rbenne2@msn.com or (208) 794-6393. There's always room for new officers!

After the election, we'll go through the process of choosing dates and locations for the campouts next year. I have included a list of of the places we have camped over the past 9 years to give you some inspiration. I have also included possible dates for the upcoming campouts. We can fit in about 8 campouts next year. With Jim & Rita hosting two of them, there is one left for each rig to host. Starting thinking of a date that fits your schedule and a fun place you'd like to visit with the Tumbleweeds!

Where to go camping? The Idaho Campground Review website I have used in the past doesn't seem to be up and running any longer, but I found this site which may help you look for possibilities for new campgrounds. www.campgroundreviews.com/regions/idaho

IMPORTANT: Janet would also like to remind everyone that the yearly "Dues are Due" at the meeting. $15 check made out to Tumbleweeds Boise -- or she takes good ol' fashion cash. If you can't make the meeting, please send your check to Janet Sanchez, 1929 Leisure Lane, Meridian, Idaho 83646; jlsanchez77@msn.com as soon as you can. Or give her a call at (208) 863-5491 if you have questions.

TO DO:
  *  RSVP to meeting along with your lunch choices by Tuesday, Nov 5th
  *  Election choices
  *  Choose a date/location for your campout hosting
  *  Bring check for dues and lunch

FYI: We will be hosting two possible new rigs: Julie & Dave, friends of Jim's from the Nampa Dog Park, and Vicki & Mark who have joined us on several of our past trips. Please make them welcome.

Let me know if you have any questions.

See you on the 9th!!!
Thanks, Rita

One final note: this is the week to make reservations for Poison Creek Campground at Lake Cascade State Park for the weekend July 24th-26th. Reserve on the date you are planning to arrive.

Poison Creek Campout RESERVATIONS timing

Hello Tumbleweeds,

Can NOT believe how fast the summer flew by. Seems like we were just at Homedale and now the joint campout is over and we're getting ready for the November election/planning meeting. More information is coming on that meeting shortly.

In the meantime, seems like everyone who attended the campout at Poison Creek Campground on Lake Cascade this year really enjoy themselves. And most want to do it again -- but a bit later in the year next year. So here's the plan. Getting far away from the 4th of July holiday and counting out the possibilities for campouts starting April 17th next year (a bit later than usual), I highly recommend we plan on going to Poison Creek July 24-26

BUT that means that reservations need to be made at 8 AM on October 24th!!!! Yes, 9 months in advance. And folks, don't hesitate ... these reservations go FAST!!!! www.reserveamerica.com

So if you want to go to Poison Creek in July, make your reservations in October!!! Jim and I hope to be there from Wednesday, July 22nd and stay through the next week. Hopefully we'll find a campsite. I'll let you know the site # once I have the reservations made.

Here's my current calendar thoughts for campouts in 2020:
  • * Easter - April 12 *
  • April 17-19
  • May 1-3
  • * Mother's Day - May 10 *
  • * Memorial Day - May 25 *
  • May 29-31
  • * Father's Day - June 21 *
  • June 26-28
  • * 4th of July *
  • July 24-26 - Poison Creek
  • August 14-16
  • * Labor Day - September 7 *
  • September 18-20 (Joint Campout with Mountain Home Travelers @ Three Island Crossing -- earlier than this year for warmer weather per requests)
Of course, nothing is set in store and the dates/locations will be determined at the November planning meeting. Check your calendars to decide which campout each rig would like to host. (Rosemary, I didn't make plans for the weekend your and Nancy have your sorority gathering, did I?)

Let me know if anyone needs further information.

See you in November (sung to "See You In September ~ Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons."

Campout for June 28-30, Poison Creek Campground

Hi to all,
Hope things are going well with all of you. Our next campout at Poison Creek Campground on Lake Cascade is coming up shortly. And thank heavens, summer weather has finally hit!!! Keep your fingers crossed that the weather holds -- the first four campouts this year have had less-than-steller weather. The weekend before the campout -- gorgeous, sunny and clear; the weekend of the campout -- not so good. But things will get better, I'm sure!!! (Fingers crossed!) 😁

So who all is joining us for this fun campout on beautiful Lake Cascade???? Please let me know so I have a count for dinner.

Jim and I will be in site #238 which is two sites north of the restrooms/showers. We'll tentative plan on gathering there for our get-togethers.

DINNERS:
Friday's Happy Hour will be about 6:00 pm at our site. Bring something fun to share for snacks and your beverage of choice. Bring chairs and we could probably use a couple of extra tables.

Saturday, dinner at 6:30 pm. We're providing beef brisket and some potato casserole. Bring a side-dish of your choice to share with others.

Firewood may be purchased from the camp hosts if needed. Also the Tamarack Resort has a Waterfront Cabana with kayaks, sailboats and standup paddleboards, motorized boats and pontoons for rent. Check it out.

Again, let me know who all will be attending. I am send out an invitation to the Cascade and McCall Good Sam groups to join us on Friday and/or Saturday. There are no campsites left but I'm hoping they will once again join us as they did for the gathering at Clear Creek. It will be nice to have other folks from other groups. If you ever want to invite folks to our campouts, please don't hesitate to have them join us. The more, the merrier we say!!!!

Safe travels to all and see in in two weeks!!!
Rita & Jim 😎

DIRECTIONS:
Take Hwy 55 north to Donnelly; turn left at the Stinker gas station as you enter town. Follow that road toward Tamarack Falls, turning left at the T-intersection. You will cross a couple of bridges over the lake.  Follow that road toward Tamarack Resort. Go through the roundabout for Tamarack, continuing straight (south) just past the roundabout. You will see the campground on the left. The entrance is just as the road turns into a dirt road. Turn left into Poison Creek Campground.

Tumbleweeds campout -- Bruneau Sand Dunes

Just a reminder that June 7-9 is the campout at Bruneau Sand Dunes. So far, I believe that only Janet & Tino, Jim & Rita will be attending.

But if anyone is interested, there are still several spots in the Eagle Cove campground available. Come on out and have a good time. The moon is should be waxing crescent -- meaning only about 20% showing  -- so it's a good weekend for the observatory and for star gazing!!! Just let me know if you are coming so we can add you to the food list.

Have a great weekend and I'm looking forward the the next campout on Lake Cascade. More info to follow.

Safe travels,
Rita

Upcoming campout at Bully Creek

The campout at Bully Creek is this coming weekend, April 26-28. The trees are "leafing", the reservoir is up, and the grass is green -- should be fun!!! And so far, the weather is looking good -- mid 70s during the day, low 40s at night. But then again, this IS Idaho so wait 20 minutes -- the weather will probably change! 😎

We'll have Happy Hour on Friday night about 6:00ish. Bring something to share for munching and your own drinks. Dinner will be at the Starlite Cafe in Vale on Saturday at 6:00 pm

In case you haven't made reservations yet, I have attached a pic of the campground so you can decide which site you want. Jim & I are in site #10, Marcia & Dennis in site #11, Janet & Tino in site #4. Remember the sites have electric, but you'll need water although there are water spigots throughout the park. Also there is dump station on the way out.

So far we have:
  • Rita & Jim - attending
  • Marcia & Dennis - attending
  • Janet & Tino - attending
  • Jim & Beccie - maybe
  • Mark & Emma not attending
  • Roy & Rosemary - not attending
  • Nancy & John - not attending
Anyone else?

Looking forward to a lovely weekend and seeing everyone.

Safe Travels,
Rita 😉

Updated 2019 Tumbleweeds campout schedule

We had a very nice lunch at Casa Mexico for the pre-season meeting last Saturday. Several folks thought it might be fun to hold another meeting there. No lunch to provide, no mess to clean up. We missed those of you who were unable to attend. (FYI: Rosemary mentioned in an email that she and Roy ran into Anna and Floyd Hope at the Sportsman Show. They are in Idaho City at the moment and doing well.)

Dennis & Marcia, Janet & Tino, Jim McDonnell (Beccie was home with the crud going around), Jim & I enjoyed lunch with Jack & Kathy Haynes from the Military Chapter. Jack showed off the new flags used at the Idaho Good Sam meetings. They are beautiful -- one for the US, one for Idaho, one for each of the military branches, and one for MIA. Thanks, Jack. We really appreciate you joining us. We hope you can join us at one of our campouts soon.

Jim & Beccie asked if we could move the Castle Rock campout to July 26-28. They will be out of town the weekend of July 19th so we agreed to move the campout back a week. Also, Cathie & Mike will be joining us at this campout. They just bought a new side by side and say the trails at Castle Rock are loads of fun. So for those of you with ATVs/UTVs -- come and enjoy!

I have updated the campout schedule and attached a copy. I have also included the site number for the wagonmasters so you reserve a site close to the them. Be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible! Campsites are going fast for all campgrounds.

Since Mark & Emma are unable to host the campout at Bully Creek on April 26-28, Jim & I will be taking over. We'll have appetizers on Friday night and dinner at the Starlite Cafe in Vale. I have attached a pic of the campground so you can decide which site you want. Jim & I are in site #10.

Marcia will be sending out info shortly about the upcoming campout at Snake River RV Park. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Travel safe,
Rita 😎

Let the good times begin!!!!

Daylight Savings Time starts -- March 10th -- only 1 day!
Pre-season Get Together -- March 16th -- only 7 days!!
Spring Begins -- March 20th -- only 11 days!
First Tumbleweeds campout -- April  5-7 -- only 27 days!!!!!!

Is it obvious I'm counting days???!!!! 😎

The pre-season get together meeting will be held at Casa Mexico, 10332 W Fairview Avs, Boise at noon on Saturday, March 16th. Please RSVP so we can have a count as to who will be attending.

Casa Mexico is in the shopping center on the northeast corner of the intersection of W. Fairview Avenue and N. Five Mile Road, next to Harbor Freight Tools. It's inside the building.

Also, we have company coming! 😀  President Jack Haynes and his lovely wife Kathy from the ID Good Sam Military State Wide Chapter and the Time To Travel chapter will be joining us. They will be showing the new flags that were recently purchased for the state to chapter meetings of Good Sam chapters in the Boise/ southern Idaho area so that they can be seen prior to the Samboree in Lewiston in June. It will be fun to see flags since most of us can't be at the Samboree in June.

The first campout is at Snake River RV Park, hosted by Marcia and Dennis. You'll need to contact the RV park if you haven't made your reservations yet. Marcia, since you are now retired and have time, we're putting you in charge of making sure we have lots of sunshine that weekend!!!! 😂

I have attached the camping schedule for this year in case you can't find the latest and greatest version. If you see changes that need to be made, please let me know.

I'm looking forward to getting the 2019 Season underway!

Again, please let me know if you are attending pre-season get together.

Safe travels,
Rita

Only 91 days to go!!!

Hello Tumbleweeds!!!

Happy New Year to all of you! Hope your holidays were delightful and everyone is in good health and raring to go camping! Yep, only 91 days from today, we'll be gathering at Snake River RV Park in Homedale to begin the camping season for 2019.

Attached you will find an updated copy of the campouts for this coming year. A couple of changes --

  • Janet & Tino have decided to host their campout in August at Ft Running Bear in Mountain Home.
  • They also decided to be the wagonmasters for the unclaimed campout in June -- they want to go to Bruneau Sand Dunes. Jim & I said we'd help out so we'll all be the "hosts with the most" for this campout.
  • And finally, thanks to Rosemary who found us a banquet room, the Pre-season meeting on March 16th will be held at Casa Mexico, 10332 W Fairview Ave, Boise (about half a block east of 5 Mile Road, on the north side of the street. It's tucked in the corner of the mini-mall, to the left of Harbor Freight). Hopefully we'll see everyone there!

Please look over the list to be sure I have your correct information. Also, as soon as you have reservations made for your site, please let us know so the rest of us can make a reservation for a site close to yours.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Safe travels,
Rita 😎
