INFORMATION ON THREE ISLAND CROSSING
Modern travelers will find a stay at Three Island Crossing much more hospitable than did the 19th century Oregon Trail pioneers who crossed the mighty Snake River at this location. Located just two miles off Interstate 84 at the Glenns Ferry exit, the park offers a campground with water and electrical service, eight cabins, picnic areas, historical interpretive programs and a fascinating admission-free interpretive center.

The park is a convenient rest stop for highway travelers looking for a place to camp as well as for golf enthusiasts looking to play a round or two at Carmela Winery & Golf Course located less than 500 yards from the park. Visitors are often surprised to find soft grass and shady trees in this high desert area.

Take a self-guided tour of the park and see the original wagon ruts and Conestoga replicas. Visit the Oregon Trail History and Education Center to learn more about pioneers, early settlers and Native American history. Dangle your feet or a line in the Snake River where emigrants made their historic crossings. Or sit under a tree and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Oregon Trail History Center: 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. Closed Sunday, Monday and holidays.

Three Island Crossing's disc golf course sits along the Snake River, featuring 18 baskets that present players with varying degrees of difficulty. It challenges the beginning golfer and the experienced player alike. Discs are available for purchase at the Oregon Trail History and Education Center.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WITH ATVS/UTVS
All boats, trailers, or other motorized vehicles must fit entirely within the campsite parking spur provided. Any equipment that does not fit entirely within the sites designated parking area must be parked outside the campground in an area designated by the park manager.

All campsite and facility use fees accommodate one (1) vehicle MVEF per night. Any additional MVEF (Motor Vehicle Entry Fee) and per person charges will be collected at the park. MVEF may be paid for at the daily rate or by purchasing a State Park Passport or an Annual Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee sticker.

Let me know if you have any questions. If you are unable to attend and need to cancel, please let me know before you cancel your reservations. There are several folks who want to attend but have been unable to get reservations. Thanks.

See you at Three Island Crossing!

Mundo Hot Springs Campout Activities

Hello Campers:

I did not hear of any changes or cancellations for this weekend's campout, so we are planning for 11 rigs (22 people).  The weather looks good with predictions of a high of 68 degrees on Thursday, low of 46 (good hot spring soaking weather), to 77 on Friday, 80 on Saturday, and 85 on Sunday and partly cloudy for all days.

On Sunday, I had a very informative telephone conversation with Sandra Hanson, Director of the Cambridge Museum.  The Cambridge Museum, 15 N Superior Street, is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 2:00.  The town of Cambridge has Kay's Art Gallery, a shop where you can get ice cream, an antique shop, and the library is open from 1 to 6 Monday thru Sat.

For the UTV riders, we can get into town from Mundo Hot Springs on the back roads.  There are two cemeteries on the opposite sides of town that would be fun to check out, both accessible without going onto any state highways.  There is an unincorporated community of Goodrich on Goodrich Road that still has an old school house.  We could head to Cuddy Mountain - some roads may be blocked off by private property owners.   UTVers can cross Highway 95 where Bain Road turns into Burton Lane, and there are loads of back roads that can take us to Midvale and all the way to Indian Valley if we wanted  There is the "ghost town" of Salubria after crossing the road on the NE corner of the 4-way stop but not much is left.  Look for an old printing press buried in the ground.  Sandra is going to draw us a map and leave it at the Cambridge Museum for pickup.  (You don't need an UTV to search for the buried printing press.)

I might suggest that we start the UTV ride at 10:00 Friday morning at the campgrounds and head to the Cambridge Museum, where we can pick up a hand-drawn UTV map Sandra is providing us.  From there we can determine where we might want to ride on Friday and on Saturday.  Pack a lunch for each ride.  We might want to do a shorter ride on Friday and a longer ride on Saturday when the rest of the riders arrive.  That would give us time Friday afternoon to enjoy the Hot Springs and the non-motorized Weiser River Trail before Happy Hour around 6:30 p.m. (bring appetizer to share, your drink, and table service).  We are thinking we might have five or six UTVs when everyone arrives.  BBQ chicken potluck will be around 6:30 on Saturday (bring dish to share, your drink and table service), with your Wagon Masters providing the chicken.  Campfires both Friday and Saturday nights.  Short meeting Saturday after potluck.

Sandra suggested next year we change our camping date to the first weekend of June and attend Hells Canyon Days in Grangeville.  Among the activities are a car and truck show.  Roy and I entered his T-Bird in the car show a number of years ago while attending Hells Canyon Days for the day.  It was a fun day.

We are very excited to be hosting this weekend's campout and are looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

Good afternoon, Tumbleweeds.

Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather we're having. Cathie has assured me that Mike will provide good weather for our campout next weekend at Copperfield in Hells Canyon! If you are attending this campout but haven't confirmed with Cathie yet, please let her know ASAP. chmickelsen@gmail.com

I am sending along the minutes from the May 11th meeting for Marcia. Read them over when you have a minute.

Also, we have new members who joined at the last campout --  Carl & Robbin Smith. Please be sure to say hi and make them feel welcome when you can.

I have attached an updated membership roster which includes the Smiths. Can you believe we now have 14 rigs (28 people) with 5 prospects? We just keep on growing.

Also attached is the membership email list to make it easier to email everyone at one time if you don't already have the addresses in your CONTACT list for your email.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll see everyone on the 28th of May.

TUMBLEWEEDS upcoming campout

First of all, many thanks to everyone who attended the first campout of the season! It was a lot of fun seeing everyone and catching up. The weather was nice for the most part -- a bit windy on Saturday, but still quite nice. We had 10 rigs/20 people attend the campout. WOW! We certainly are growing. Several folks stopped by and asked for more info about the group. So who knows -- more members may be coming soon. 😁

Next campout is April 30th to May 2nd at Bully Creek Reservoir, just outside of Vale, OR. Wagonmasters: Two "J's" with an R & B (Jim & Beccie -- Site #4, Jim & Rita-- Site #10).

PLEASE RSVP so we can get a head count for the meals.

DIRECTIONS:
Once reaching Vale, continue past the "Y" intersection of Hwy 20 and Graham Blvd. It's about 12 minutes/9.5 miles to Bully Creek past Vale. You'll see the sign for Bully Creek to turn right onto Bully Creek Road and continue on down about 5 miles the road.

CHECK IN:
  • The house to check in is just before the campground. You will need to check in and pay with CASH or CHECK. NO CREDIT CARDS. Fee is $15.00 per night.
  • Check in time is 1:00 PM; check out time is 2:00 PM, I believe.
  • Campsites are electrical only.
  • There are water spigots around the campground but come prepared.
  • Also there is a dump station on the way out.
  • ATVs/UTVs are NOT allowed in the campground. Before pulling into the campground, there is the parking lot for the boat ramp. ATVs/UTVs can be parked there overnight. There is a short strip of grass between the boat ramp parking lot and the campground.

FRIDAY NIGHT:
Appetizers will be Friday night about 6 PM at Site #4, Jim & Beccie's place. There is a covered shelter and a large fire pit for our gatherings.

SATURDAY NIGHT:
Slight change of plans. Instead of the Starlight Cafe, Beccie & Jim would like to have a potluck dinner with an Italian theme. They'll be providing pasta with meatballs and mushrooms sauce. Jim & I will add a main dish to go with that. We'll need sides like salads, antipasta, garlic bread, Italian side dishes, and desserts. Soon as we have the number of confirmed folks attending, I'll let you know how many will be eating.

FYI: I have invited a teacher friend from school -- Jesus Gomez. He and his lovely wife Rachel will be joining us for this campout.

Let me know if you have any questions. Again, please RSVP as soon as you can!

Thanks,

Rita 😊
