TUMBLEWEEDS: Update calendar.

Here we are, almost to the end of the year. Goodbye 2020. Here's to a MUCH better 2021!!!!

We have filled all the camping dates so be sure to check the latest calendar for specific information. You may need to contact a member to make your reservations instead of calling the campground or making reservations online. Also, some places are cash/check only. I have attached an updated calendar.

THREE ISLAND CROSSING REMINDER:
Reservations needed and can be made after January 1st, 2021 for the October 1st-3rd campout. We'll be in the Trailside Lower section.

As each campout gets closer, the wagonmaster will be in contact with all of us to pass along meal thoughts, activities in the area, directions, and any other info we need to know to make it a great experience.

I have also included an updated roster in case I didn't send it out before. Let me know if you have any questions. I'm here to help!

One last item: if you have not yet paid your dues, please send the $15 check made out to Tumbleweeds Boise to our new treasurer, Marcia Seibel at 703 Jackson Boise, Idaho 83705 as soon as you can. Thank you!

Idaho State Parks

Camping Reservations For 2021 Begin December 10th!

Thank you for being a valued customer of Idaho State Parks! You may be aware that IDPR has currently not been accepting camping reservations for the 2021 season. We are currently re-programming of our software system to create a reduced number of site types and an improved pricing structure based on park popularity. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Reservations are still being taken for a limited number of cabins, yurts, and other facilities at Harriman State Park, Ponderosa State Park, and Idaho City Yurts. To check availability or reserve these facilities, visit parksandrecreation.idaho.gov or call 1-888-922-6743.

Annual Election & Planning meeting for the Tumbleweeds 2021 Camping Season

TIME TO GET READY! PLEASE RSVP so we have a head count. Thanks.

Saturday, November 7th @ 12 noon
KOA Meridian Meeting Room
184 W Pennwood Street, Meridian

The KOA has asked that we use the door closest to the parking lot to enter and leave. The clubhouse will be locked. We are to park on the street outside the KOA.

The room at the KOA will be sanitized, but there will be very little interaction with the KOA staff. The very nature of a KOA campground brings about a variety of travellers from all over.

We're providing paper plates and plastic utensils for lunch. We'll have bottled water, but if you would like something else, we suggest you BYOB (bring your own beverage).

LUNCH:
As a change of pace and to help our local firehouses, lunch will be from Firehouse Subs this year. They have delicious subs and salads and chips. You will find the menu here: www.firehousesubs.com/our-food. I will need your order emailed to me by Wednesday, November 4th, please. Be specific on what you want or don't want on your sandwich or salad (ex: if you don't like onions on your sub and it comes with onions, be sure to tell me NO ONIONS).

Jim and I will pick up the food on the way to the KOA. We'll let everyone know what they owe that day. A $2.00 per person charge will be added to your total for the KOA rental charge.

AGENDA FOR THE MEETING
  • Yearly elections for Tumbleweeds Board of Directors. Contact Marcia Seibel if you are interested in running for president, vice-president or secretary/treasure or if you have questions. seibel703@gmail.com or (208) 631-4435. We can always use some new blood on the board!

  • Election of new Idaho Good Sam Club Director. You should have already received an email from Jerry Robertson, the webmaster for the Idaho Good Sam Organization. There are two candidates for the Director position this year: Eldona Lounsbury and Charles (Chazz) Neher. I will resend that email to everyone in case you didn't receive it yet. This email contains bio info on both candidates. We will choose the candidate we feel will best fit the Idaho Good Sam and I will send our choice as a club on the ballot form after our meeting. The ballot is due by November 15th.

  • Choosing dates and locations for the campouts next year. Come with ideas and places where you'd like to host a campout. I am attaching a possible calendar for next year's campouts. Look at the dates to see when you would be interested in hosting a campout. There are 9 possible dates so, with 10 rigs in the group, we should be able to have each rig host a campout.

IMPORTANT: BRING CHECKBOOKS or CASH
Annual Club Dues -- $15.00
Lunch -- $TBD

Let me know if you have any questions.

See you November 7th!!!
Thanks, Rita 😁

Tumbleweeds: Mark your calendar

The annual planning and election meeting will be held at noon on Saturday, November 7th at the KOA Meridian. If you have a suggestion for lunch, let me know.

We'll be planning the campouts for 2021 and electing officers for the upcoming year and maybe deciding if the Tumbleweeds are staying with Good Sam Club.

I'll send out a reminder a couple weeks ahead along with a calendar of possible camping dates so we can come prepared to plan our campouts.

So mark your calendars for this very special meeting of the Tumbleweeds.

Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks, Rita 🤗

Tumbleweeds -- next campout

Many thanks to everyone who joined us at Three Island Crossing this past weekend. A good time was had by all ... despite the flies. The weather turned out lovely and of course, the food was great! And the campfire even better!!! 😊

Next campout is October 2nd-4th at Copperfield Campground in Hells Canyon. Looks like there are several sites available so come join us. And bring your friends and neighbors!

The wagonmasters are David & Julie so we should be hearing from them soon on the plans for this campout. I think Roy & Rosemary are putting together an ATV/UTV trip so I'm guessing we'll hear from them too.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'm here to help!

Happy Camping,
Rita 😎

Friday, September 4, 2020

Come one, come all to the September campout!

Gooooooooooooooood morning, campers! Are we ready for a camping trip next weekend?

PLEASE RSVP ASAP if you are attending in order to get an accurate headcount. Thank you!
  • Campout: September 11-13, Three Island Crossing, Glenns Ferry, ID
  • Appetizers on Friday, 6 PM at Site #67
  • Dinner on Saturday, 6 PM at Site #67
  • Wagonmasters: Jim & Rita, Site #67, Trailside Lower

Normally this is a joint campout with the High Desert Travelers out of Mountain Home, but they are not gathering this year so it looks like it will be just Tumbleweeds and a few friends. Mary Ann and her hubby from High Desert Travelers will be joining us and Jim & I have some friends coming too, but we are not expecting the gathering we normally have. 🙁

Therefore, I need a headcount from Tumbleweeds on how many WILL be attending in order to provide enough food. Jim & I will be contributing beef brisket and mashed potatoes for Saturday night so we'll need sides to complement.

The pavilion is closed (but available for rental at $50 per night) so we thought we'd save some money and just meet at our Site #67 since there won't be many of us this year. Don't forget tables and chairs.

As of today, it looks like there is one site available in the Trailside Lower if anyone has not made their reservation yet. Also, it looks like there is one cabin also available.

Weather is looking good -- low 90s during the day; mid 50s at night. Good camping weather.

Let me know if you have any questions. And please let me know ASAP if you are attending. Thanks for your help!

Looking forward to seeing everyone for a weekend of rest and relaxation.

Happy Camping and Safe Travels,
Rita

Update on the Good Sam Organization

Sharing this note which came from Cathie Mickelsen, Idaho Good Sam Director:

Notes on Good Sam International.
1. Good Sam organization (club) will not be disbanded and will move forward. I am excited about the changes that are being made.
2. There will be new changes in what is expected from all state directors.
3. There will no longer be national rallies sponsored by Camping World.
4. There are going be a monthly video conference for all state directors. This gives us a chance to gather new ideas and to solve the problems all states face. I would really appreciate hearing all ideas and concerns that you have. Idaho needs a voice in making changes so we can have what is best for our organization. All concerns need to be heard, however please bring a solution with the concern.

As for Idaho Good Sam we will be holding a State Director election in the fall.  Check the August newsletter for election details. This is good news for Idaho and I hope you are as excited as I am.

Stay safe and healthy,
Cathie

Upcoming Campout July 24-26, Huckleberry Campground

PLEASE HIT REPLY to this email and RSVP to this campout so I have numbers for food. Also your campsite# would be great if you know it. Thanks!

Jim and Rita are in Site #93.
____________________________________

RESERVATIONS:
Only 18 days until our next camping trip. We'll be at Huckleberry Campground on the backside of Lake Cascade. We had to make these reservations 9 months ago and it sure seems like it took forever to get here.

For those of you who don't have reservations, I just checked the RESERVEAMERICA.COM website and don't see anything for that weekend at any of the campgrounds on Lake Cascade. Rainbow Point which is part of the Bosie National Forest has some "first come first served" sites that weekend if you want to come and check it out (www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232087). Also, there are private campgrounds in Cascade, Donnelly and McCall which might have some sites available. FYI: Believe it or not, there are lots of weekday sites available at the primitive campgrounds at Lake Cascade for the next few weeks. That's unheard of this time of year.

DIRECTIONS:
From Boise, take Hwy 55 north to Donnelly. Turn left at the Sinclair station, going towards Tamarack Resort. Continue on that road around to the backside of the lake -- about 12-15 miles. Turn left onto West Mountain Road.

Huckleberry is the 3rd campground as you come down West Mountain Road (the first two belong to the BLM -- Amanita and Rainbow Point).

FOOD:
We'll be gathering on Friday night for appetizers about 6:30 pm so bring something fun to share with all.

Saturday's dinner will again be about 6:30 pm and the main course will be ham and cheese sliders. We'll need to add salads, fruit, watermelon, beans, desserts, etc.  to the menu so bring something for all to enjoy. The folks from the Cascade clubs may be joining us since some of our group will be going ATVing with them on Saturday. Information on the ATV rides will be coming from Rosemary so check with her if you are interested. rosemaryzimbelman@gmail.com

We'll be gathering at our site #93. I think there is some good space around our campsite. BUT we'll probably need some tables for buffet and dining as well as chairs for both nights. Also it looks like we have some trees for shade.

Let me know if you have questions. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Rita

Reservations for Farewell Bend - June 26-28

Good morning, Tumbleweeds. Hope everyone is having a good day! I'm THIS CLOSE 🤗 to being on my 6-week summer break so I'm getting a bit antsy! 😂

PASSING ON INFORMATION:
I just did some checking on reservations for Farewell Bend, the campout on June 26-28. Jim and I may be able to make it on Saturday, leaving on Monday.

Seems ReserveAmerica for Oregon is accepting reservations starting only 2 weeks out from your desired camp date. Which means you can make reservations today for as far ahead as Thursday, June 25th. You can extend into dates past those two weeks if your reservations start during those two weeks.

If you are interested in attending this campout, you can make reservations for that weekend starting TOMORROW, FRIDAY JUNE 12th. Looking at the reservation calendar, there seem to be quite a few campsites which will be available that weekend and after (see map below).

FYI -- our camp hosts Roy & Rosemary are in site #87; John & Nancy are in site #122 (red arrows).

Reservations can be made at

MORE INFO
For those who are interested in what campgrounds are open where, here is a good source of info:

The following campout for the Tumbleweeds will be July 24-26
Huckleberry Campground, Lake Cascade, ID

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
Rita 😎

Tumbleweeds: Updated Camping Schedule

Well, I don't know about you but that was a great campout we had this past weekend -- and boy, did I need that! My batteries were definitely recharged.

Janet and Tino did a great job, covering all the bases: sun, rain, clouds, hail, hot, cold, good food, great company -- and a warm campfire. Sorry Mark & Emma that you missed it. It was a lot of fun!

Rosemary reminded me I hadn't updated the campout schedule to include Farewell Bend which is our next gathering.

The campout is June 26-28 but you can't currently make reservations through Oregonstateparks.Reserveamerica.com. They should be open the first of June. Rosemary & Roy, John & Nancy are the wagonmasters so you'll be hearing more from them.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks, Rita 😊

August 14-16 campout

Hello Everyone:

For your information, if you still have any Idaho Power campsite reservations you need to cancel (Hells Canyon McCormick Park or CJ Strike Cottonwood Park) if you call Cindy Sorensen, Idaho Power Parks and Recreation 208-388-2231 and tell her you are cancelling because of virus concerns, you will get a full refund.  I cancelled my CJ Strike reservations today and Cindy said Idaho Power is giving full refunds for any reservations being cancelled for virus concerns.

Also a reminder for our Huckleberry Campground, Lake Cascade, reservations in July that we had to make nine months in advance, aka in 2019, if you have not already done so, you need to call Idaho Dept. of Parks and Recreation Reservations, 1-888-922-6743, and give them your 2020 Idaho Resident Sticker No. (which is your license plate number) and your 2020 State Park Passport No., which will get you a refund for these discounts.  That is next on my to-do list.  They will want your expiration date on both of those as well.  They would not take that information in 2019 because these usually expire the end of the year.

Hope you are enjoying the beautiful weather we have been having.

Rosemary

Updated Calendar

Several folks mentioned not having an updated calendar so check out the updated one under CAMPING SCHEDULE 2020 with what I have up to this point in time. This includes the cancelled campouts and the change in August from CJ Strike to Riverpond in Crouch.

Also, one more change: I had a call today from Emma who said she and Mark are unable to host the June 26-28 campout as they need to be back in Massachusetts at that time. If anyone is interested in being the Wagonmasters for that weekend, please let me know. Sadly, Jim and I have other plans at that time so we will not be able to play host. Please let me know if you would like to take this campout.

Thanks and miss all of you! Looking forward to the end of May campout!

Stay well,
Rita ☀

Did you receive your cancellation notice?

We received notification from Idaho Power today canceling our reservations for the campout at McCormick Park for May 1-3 and issuing a full refund. Did everyone else receive one?

I'm so sad. 😖 I'm still working but now that schools are closed for the rest of the year, I was really hoping for some campouts soon ... some interaction with real people. Maybe things will get better after this week.

Hope everyone is healthy, wealthy, and wise -- well, at least 2 out of 3 ain't bad! We are fine, just staying in and trying not to be overwhelmed by the news and the situations.

Keep in touch and let us know what's happening in your neck of the woods. Stay healthy! 😷

Miss everyone,
Rita 😎

Cancellation of first two campouts

Well, today we received a refund from ReserveAmerica.com for the cancellation of the Bruneau campout on April 17-19. Sad to see the first campout of the year cancelled. 🙁

And I just read the message below on the Idaho Power reservation system website:

In accordance with recent restrictions announced by the states of Idaho and Oregon, all Idaho Power recreation sites — including campgrounds, boat ramps, parks and day-use areas — are now closed. We know how much you love these facilities and apologize if it has caused you to change plans. But we are committed to doing our part to help slow the spread so we can all get back out to these wonderful places when it's safe to do so.

So it looks like the May 1-3 campout is also cancelled. I have emailed Idaho Power to see how we will receive refunds for that campout. I'll let you know what I find out.

All of this makes me very sad as I was really looking forward to sunshine, fresh air, camp fires and good company. Say a prayer our May 29-31 isn't cancelled and that we are looking at social distancing in the rear-view mirror!

Let me know if you have any questions or thoughts.

Stay safe and healthy!!!
Rita

Interesting ... and sad ... article.

Passing on more information about the changes in the Good Sam Club. This is an article I read in the RVTravel.com newsletter which is an excellent source of RV news.

Remember, at this time, it's entirely up to you if you would like to attend one/all of the Tumbleweeds campouts. Technically, our chapter events have been cancelled. At this point, we are a group of friends getting together for a campout. Let me know if you have questions.

Wash your hands and use common sense!

Thanks, Rita

Has a nail been driven into the Good Sam Club's coffin?

The new logo. What happened to the Good Sam man?

The Good Sam Club, the largest organization of RVers, is over as an active social club for RVers. All social gatherings have been banned due to coronavirus concerns, which is understandable. But what surprised the club's state and provincial chapter leaders was the line in a letter they received yesterday. "To keep you and your family safe, as well as continuing to follow the CDC guidelines, the difficult decision has been made to pause the Good Sam State/Provincial Director program, effective immediately." Bottom line, this means the social element of the club is finished — the club's two million members are now essentially members of a Camping World loyalty and discount program. Even the little Good Sam man is missing from recent logos.

Is Good Sam finished as an active RV club?

Fwd: Cancellation of Good Sam Activities

I am forwarding this message from our Idaho Good Sam Director Cathie Mickelsen. It looks like there will be no Good Sam Samboree or Fall Roundup this year. I'm sure we'll be hearing more from Cathie once she and Mike are home from their trip but if you have any questions, please let me know.

I'm not totally sure of the implications for the Tumbleweeds or for the Good Sam chapters, but personally, I'm not cancelling any of my reservations for our camping trips. The outdoors, sunshine, fresh air, and warm weather are great ways to stay healthy. And any of you who would like to join me will be most welcome!!!!

Stay healthy and travel safe,
Rita

Subject: Cancellation of Good Sam Activities

Good Afternoon,
I am sending part of the message I recieved yesterday from Good Sam Nationial..
We are traveling, but will be in Boise in a few days so please contact me if yu have any questions or concerns.

Hi Everyone!  We hope that you and your family members are staying safe & healthy during this challenging time.

Earlier this week a note was sent out to customers notifying them of the actions that our team is doing to help keep our community safe.  Our team is committed to making sure that we can supply the essentials that the RV community needs to make sure their home on wheels is functioning and safe.

Due to recent developments, the concern over the health and well-being of our customers and community continues to grow.  To keep you and your family safe, as well as continuing to follow the CDC guidelines, the difficult decision has been made to pause the Good Sam State/Provincial Director program, effective immediately.

Q:  Can we continue to host Good Sam state/provincial & individual chapter meetings?

A:  At this time, all meetings should be cancelled.

Q:  How does this impact our state/provincial rally?

A:  All Good Sam State/Provincial rallies are to be cancelled.  A note will be placed on GoodSam.com/Events that all 2020 Good Sam State/Provincial Rallies are postponed indefinitely.

Q:  This is an election year for our state/province, are we continuing with the elections?

A:  The Good Sam State/Provincial Director program is paused until further notice.  More updates will be available at a later time.

Q:  When will the program begin again?

A:  At this time, the program is paused until further notice.  We will continue to send communication to the team as updates are available.

I will keep you apprised as we move forward. Stay healthy and safe,

Cathie

TUMBLEWEEDS: Spring is a-coming! And so is camping season!!!!

The camping season is coming soon. Personally, I can't wait!

Daylight savings time starts next weekend, Spring starts on the 20th ... and our pre-season camping meeting is on the 14th of March. To everyone who has RSVP'd, thank you. I've heard from everyone except John & Nancy. Jim & I are looking forward to a fun get-together luncheon.

The first campout is at Bully Creek and our wagon masters are Marcia & Dennis. I'm sure we'll be hearing from Marcia soon as to the plans for this campout. The good news from Vale, Oregon is that the Starlight Cafe has reopened. The bad news is that the hours are from 6:30 AM to 2:00 PM. So I'm sure that Marcia has a plan! 😁

I am sending along the calendar of events for all who can't find the last one I sent (like me!), but here's a quick list of what's coming between March and September.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll see most of you on the 14th.

Rita 😎

Mark your calendars! Something fun is coming ...

Time is starting to move quickly into the "warm" season!!!

Only 5 weeks until our yearly Pre-Season gathering to begin preparation for the upcoming camping season. We'll be meeting at noon on Saturday March 14th at Casa Mexico, 10332 W Fairview Ave # 104, Boise, ID 83704, (208) 375-0342.

Please RSVP so I can have an accurate headcount.

Then 5 weeks after that is our first campout of the season. Camphosts are Marcia and Dennis and they are holding their campout at Bully Creek in Vale, Oregon. I'm sure Marcia will be providing us with more information on that campout shortly. Are they taking reservations yet?

Attached is a copy of the upcoming campout schedule. I'll update it as changes occur so let me know if you have any changes to make. Everyone should try to make their reservations as easy as possible to be sure you have a spot for each campout.

As always, I'm here if you have any questions. I'm starting to count weeks instead of months ... then I'll be counting days! I LOVE camping season!

Also, the High Desert Travelers are thrilled with the earlier date in September for our joint campout this year. Warmer weather should help make it a better campout.

Also they have a planned campout in March for St. Patrick's Day at Hagerman Village. It's the weekend of March 13-15. Let Mary Ann know if you would like to join them. murklema@msn.com

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in March.
Safe travels,
Rita 😎
